fashion | about a week ago… prom 2014

before i start this post, i just wanted to take this time to be excited about Vodacom In The City tonight – i wrote about how awesome the concert was last year here, and i’m super psyched again to go for the 3rd year in a row! with acts like crystal fighters, mgmt, rudimental & phfat performing, you don’t wanna miss out! you can still get tickets here. see you there 🙂

to paraphrase the beloved high school musical 3, it was the night of my nightmares and simultaneously the night of my dreams. after months of planning and stressing; weeks of gripping anxiety and fear because this giant, daunting event was finally upon me and i didnt want to be let down; days of intense pampering (the weave game, the nail game, the make up game, the eyebrow game – wednesday through friday ended up feeling like the olympics) – it all led up to one momentous occasion: matric dance (prom).

okay, so i finally caved. if you follow me on twitter, you’ll know that when birkenstocks became a trend again, as apprehensive as i was towards them, i liked them on just about everyone else but myself, because, yano, i have ugly toes and whatnot. but, when i was matric dance dress shopping with my mom last week at the eastgate shopping mall (btw: i have a dress now and it slays, thank you mom), i stumbled into factorie and (my mom) begrudgingly bought these shoes. and i hate that i absolutely love them. like, they’re ugly, but they’re cool, right? either way, they’re one of fashions conundrums that we don’t question but if anyone asks, we blame céline for making them cool again (at least they’re not this bad.)

fashion | in light of #MBFWCT, here’s a #TBT

when the majority of south africa’s blogging elite live in cape town, it’s very difficult not to feel some ridiculous aspect of fomo for the mercedes benz fashion week. with brands such as kluk cgdt and gavin rajah showcasing their work over the next three days, my heart yearns to be there… but since i cant visit cape town, i decided to visit memory lane. four months ago was merecedes benz fashion week joburg and i had the pleasure of seeing tart, selfi, adriaan kuiters and maxhosa by laduma. i posted some stuff on it here. but, as always, you never quite get around to posting all the stuff, so i thought i should relive those glory moments – got to meet jerri mokgofe, trevor stuurman, raya rossi, nhlanhla nciza (of mafikizolo) and patrice motsepe, and that was a pretty big deal to me.

okay, so sorry (not sorry) about the unannounced hiatus, but, seeing as i’ve just written the most physically/mentally grueling sets of exams thus far (and technically, i’m still writing them), i made the decision to focus on academics for a while. and that decision will be repeated from mid august-mid september (that was your warning, heed it!). buuuuuuuut since i just couldn’t stay away, here’s a little outfit post.

seeing as award season is over, the met gala is like the last reprisal for fashionistas and fashion junkies everywhere. and it never disappoints (and even when people’s outfits disappoints, its merely fuel for the blogosphere’s fire, so, like, everyone wins). the inner 13 year old blogger in me would be happy because i’m blogging red carpets again. lol. so without further adieu, here are my best/worst dressed and those i can forgive, otherwise known as the yays, the nays, and the ‘i love you so you can do whatever you want’s.
