florals? in autumn?

photos by sope og

to paraphrase the devil wears prada, i am wearing florals in autumn. groundbreaking. but in other news, you’ll see below that i cut my hair. i did it very impulsively yesterday morning and with my outfit today, i legitimately felt like one of my fave bloggers, raya rossi. i also committed a lot of blogger cliches today and i understand completely why bloggers do it – its so fun! i: wore my jacket over my shoulders instead of actually putting my arms through them; wore a chain necklace with a button up shirt; wore socks with jelly sandals; carried a celine(-esque) bag.

princesses in haute couture

if you didn’t know by now, or guess from my valentines day outfit as seen here, i’ve always dreamt of being a disney princess. like, they’re my spirit animal. so, a while ago i was on tumblr and i stumbled across this amazing pictorial on disney princesses in haute couture gowns and my heart began to sing, because disney has created some of the most iconic outfits of all time – most girls can, at one stage or another, say that they’ve wished for a cinderella-type wedding with a gigantic ballgown (nowadays i either want vera or elie, though) or wondered how it was physically possible for belle to move in that obscenely constructed dress.

tomboy for a day

for anyone who has been reading dearsolo for a while, you’ll know how much i love my topshop mom jeans -i even dedicated an entire blog post to them when i bought them last june. but some time after that, i’m not sure if i lost weight (ha!) or if they expanded, but suddenly, i had to belt them every time i wore them, which i never had to do before, and it was a massive pain in the bum. then, in a completely different train of thought, i became like super obsessed with boyfriend jeans and i craved a pair. so what do i do with some baggy mom jeans and a lust for boyfriend jeans? introduce my boyfriend to my mom and get this uber tomboy-ish vibe.

disney love

happy (belated) valentines day! in the spirit of all things love-related, for school, we decided that the theme for the valentines day civvies day should be disney love, because who doesnt love at least one of the disney classics? we had people coming to school as mickey and minnie mouse, lilo from lilo and stitch, esmeralda from the hunchback of notre dame and so much more. i took the opportunity to dress up as one of my favourite disney princesses, jasmine from aladdin, and suffice to say, i had my outfit planned + bought before we even announced the theme to the rest of the school.

on the 14th, we also held our annual valentines day social and our theme was casino royale – the crew worked so hard to make it happen and the turn out was great, if i do say so myself. i was, naturally, on photo duty and i took that as an invitation to have some fun with it and make some photobooth strips of our guests! it was honestly one of the most intense days of my life, and i found multiple new reasons to dislike valentines day – none of which having to do with my complete and utter singledom, funny enough. all in all, it was a success, so i thought i’d share some pics of the day! lemme know what you did this valentines day too 🙂

what i wore:
  • jasmine outfit from china town
  • head chain from fordsburg markets
  • jelly sandals from cotton on
and for the valentines social…

lupita est muy bonita

hello everyone! i just returned from camp with the grade 8s of my school and to say that i’m tired is the understatement of the year. voice gone, a bit sun burnt, muscular pain (how the heck did i cut myself & where did this bruise come from??) – suffice to say, i am happy to return to suburbia. i should’ve posted this before i left but my internet was being ugly so i couldn’t 🙁

if you haven’t heard of this woman, you’ve probably been living under a rock. not only has lupita nyong’o been the buzz of hollywood over her portrayal of patsey in the critically acclaimed golden globe winning and oscar nominated movie, 12 Years A Slave, she’s also caught our eye as a style icon who not only slays on the red carpet, but is one of the new faces of miu miu’s ss2014 campaign alongside elizabeth olsen and elle fanning. futhermore, this kenyan native is changing the game and she does so with such elegance.

other than to gush over lupita nyong’o, this post serves a purpose: to gush over lupita nyong’o in the february issue of Dazed & Confused‘s Girls Who Run The World issue. from bold make up to even bolder outfits, this pictorial has me feeling so many feels and i just love it and i love her.
