outfit | kimono me krazy

I think it’s no surprise that the summer of 2014 was kimono crazy – they’re sleek, easy to wear, take any outfit from an average person 6 to a hipster 8.5 and they make you feel completely covered even if you’re only wearing shorts and a crop top. They also serve the purpose of making house wear formal enough for leaving the house – one of the owners of Ruff Tung even told me she swears by them because she can wear them around the house yet still meet with clients, and, I mean, who am I to disagree? Comfort is cool, and so are kimonos.

outfit | the power of red

photos by tegan smith

before i got overwhelmed by the madness that is fashion week, i had the opportunity to shoot with the amazing photographer Tegan Smith while she was in joburg this past week. you may know her as the incredible photo taker behind Baked The Blog, and if you do, you’ll know that she’s good at what she does. i got to experience the magic first hand and i honestly can’t wait to do it again! i had such a great time shooting with her – and the pictures prove the magic.

beauty | my trippy-drippy nail tutorial

alternatively titled ‘how to dip your nails in the blood of your enemies’
p.s., none of my enemies were harmed during the making of this tutorial.

according to tumblr, as soon as it becomes october, it’s officially halloween, so keeping in the spirit of things that are spooky, creep and/or cool, i finally decided to try out this dripping nail art technique, using my nail art brush that i got from avon and this beautiful blood orange (although titled zesty orange) woolworths nail polish. it also helps that they bring on this sort of clown vibe, which is all the more creepy.

i had already filed my acrylic tips into a stiletto shape out of boredom, and i thought this effect would look really cool with that nail shape!

fashion | about a week ago… prom 2014

before i start this post, i just wanted to take this time to be excited about Vodacom In The City tonight – i wrote about how awesome the concert was last year here, and i’m super psyched again to go for the 3rd year in a row! with acts like crystal fighters, mgmt, rudimental & phfat performing, you don’t wanna miss out! you can still get tickets here. see you there 🙂

to paraphrase the beloved high school musical 3, it was the night of my nightmares and simultaneously the night of my dreams. after months of planning and stressing; weeks of gripping anxiety and fear because this giant, daunting event was finally upon me and i didnt want to be let down; days of intense pampering (the weave game, the nail game, the make up game, the eyebrow game – wednesday through friday ended up feeling like the olympics) – it all led up to one momentous occasion: matric dance (prom).

Minimalism

Minimalism

I was trying to think of an outfit post that I can shoot without freezing my bum off (it is winter, after all) and without it being completely black. So this was the best I could do – it’s not totally black, so that’s okay, right?

The outfit actually came about in a weird way. I’ve had this crop top from Mr Price since 2010 and I remember so vividly why I bought it – the crop top trend wasn’t so big yet but I really wanted one to wear with a skirt I had for the sole purpose of posting it on my Lookbook. I never really had the figure to wear it other than with high waisted clothing, so it’s been sitting in my closet… Until my parents went to London and my mom bought my sister a high waisted elastic knee-length pencil skirt (which is all the rage at the moment and it’s similar to this) in the same stripes as this top. But then my mom said I can’t have it so when I went to Mr Price, I got this striped bodycon skirt instead. Even though the stripes are in different directions, I thought it worked. The beanie was from a little stall in Fourways Mall and  I’m wearing my Woolworths creepers again as seen in this post.

P.S. The necklace is actually from my mom’s handbag – I kept looking for a chain but when I saw the extendable strap for her clutch, I thought, ‘Why not?’. The chain actually brought out my inner ratchet circa Miley Cyrus We Can’t Stop meets 2 Chainz (because I appear to be wearing… two chains. Hehe.) And I sort of just went with it. Rocking some gang $ign$. Eating my chain. Hoodrat things. The beanie added to the vibe.

P.P.S. I recently just joined WhatIWear.com – it’s a fashion site similar to Lookbook where you can post your outfits, categorise them by trends with other bloggers/fashionistas, give Style Analyses on your outfits and other people’s outfits and just network! It’s a great site – check it out and be sure to follow me 🙂

P.P.P.S. Just have a good day, everyone 🙂
