after my enlightening experience at #mbfwj, i realised that i needed to add in a subsection under blogger spotlight – the fashion people of south africa are actually the most interesting bunch out there, so let’s take a look at a few, starting with jerri mokgofe.

current obsession: iggy azalea x charli xcx

it’s a known fact that i love both iggy azalea and charli xcx. iggy has been my obsession since her mixtape ignorant art – i still have the last song on repeat from time to time – and she is one of my favourite video artists because there is always a well directed/lit/styled story in work, bounce and change your life. i’ve only been listening to charli in the past four or so months and i really love her debut album, especially so far away, stay away, and how can i.

current obsession: jhené aiko.

last name: aiko.
first name jhené.
pronounced: juh-nay ai-ko.
profession: artist.

because to label her ‘a singer’ would be a little bit of an injustice. upon discovery of her music a few years back, i was instantly besotted with her smooth vocals and honest lyrics, finding in them little pieces of myself (especially during all of the emotional turmoil i was enduring at the time). but when she released the song 3:16am, something in me sparked a bit. was it the beat? her voice? the lyrics? you decide for yourself. suffice to say, my study alarm has been set to 3:16am ever since with the title “i do not feel the fear of falling”, just to be corny.

she’s not exactly new to the scene, as you’ve probably heard her on drake’s song, from time, and if you haven’t, you’ve probably seen the lyrics splashed on twitter and facebook (who am i kidding – i’ve quoted “i love me, i love me enough for the both of us.” too).

her latest ep, sail out, succeeding her previous ep sailing soul(s), is start to finish brilliant, featuring the likes of kendrick lamar and childish gambino. suffice to say, i’ve tried to learn all the words to comfort inn (freestyle), the worst has me feeling all kinds of unwanted feels and WTH is a mellow tune that i genuinely enjoy – especially ab-soul’s verse on it.

give jhené a listen – you wont regret it. you can buy her latest ep here and take a look at her tumblr blog here.

bastille, bastille

in light of yesterday marking the annual J&B Met (of which i was unfortunately not in attendance), between sneezing and coughing my way through my saturday and habitual instagram stalking of those at the actual Met (the tgether girls exponentially increased my fomo – i am still waiting for my sunglass hut inner circle invite too), i was reminiscing of a saturday, three weeks former on the 11th of january, on which i got to see the band bastille perform live at emmarentia dam, also including the acts matthew mole (my faveeee), beatenberg and bed on bricks.

matthew mole

matthew mole kickstarted the show and i was so excited to see him perform, it was unreal. not only is he the cutest person and performer everrrrrr, his whole one-man vibe on the stage makes it so easy for him to connect with the audience. even though i missed beatenberg’s performance (we had to find somewhere shady to sit – the weather on the day was absolutely ridiculous. it was so hot i felt like i was in australia), i could still hear them perform chelsea blackmore and a cover of frank ocean’s thinkin’ bout you, which made my heart smile. buuuuuut because of the incredibly hot weather, by 3:30pm, mother nature had decided that it was time for some rain, so that had a few hundred people all trying to squish under tents and trees while bed on bricks’ performance had to be cut short. fear not, though, because literally right before bastille was supposed to come on, the rain stopped and the sky cleared – it was magical. dan, who is a british born south african by the way, was so charismatic on stage, he was giving the backstage crew man a heart attack with his incessant microphone moving because the cable got tangled. dan was climbing the scaffolding, moving across the apron of the stage and during flaws, he put on his hoodie and walked through the crowd. not even joking, he was a metre away from me – it was incredible. all in all, i think all 15 000 of us had a great time, come rain or shine (or both). a particular shoutout to jenna because it was her 18th birthday on the day!

a huge shoutout must go to nokia, seed experiences and 5fm – but in particular to nokia because without them, i literally would not have been there. their free tickets and complimentary picnic basket and blanket honestly made that day more comfortable for me and my friends! seed experiences always hosts such amazing events – their latest one is the olmeca tequila mad decent block party, this saturday the 8th of february in joburg in mary fitzgerald square and on the 9th of february in cape town at the dias parking lot – you can get your tickets here. an extra special thank you to the organisers for not making this a ‘no camera’ affair – this is one of the only concerts where i’ve been allowed to bring my dslr and what a world of difference it makes! thankyouthankyouthankyou!

i hope everyone has a great week/new month of february! with valentines day coming up soon, may the odds be ever in your favour. continue reading to see more pictures!

what time is it?

SUMMERTIME! IT’S MY VACATION!

hello everyone! with exams (and grade 11 – eek) done and dusted, it gives me great pleasure to be able to devote my attention to my blog again. i have about four draft posts that i started but due to the ever-looming presence of exams, i never got to finish or post.

but alas, i am officially on holiday until the middle of january so i hope to be posting more 🙂 i give to you (above) my first official holiday selfie, flower crown and all because its, you know, summer and whatever. my eyebrow game is not as strong as it should be, but i’ve been a bit preoccupied, okayyy? (i’ve also decided to include some music in my posts. why not)

this is also a very mini outfit post because after taking these selfies, i went to a little ‘pool party’ with my friends (i say ‘pool party’ because the weather was too overcast for me to even consider wearing shorts to the shindig) and it was a very chilled and very nice way to break in the holidays.

happy belated thanksgiving, by the way! even though i’m not american and don’t celebrate the holiday, i’m still really grateful for my friends, family, and particularly to God for getting me through these exams – rough doesn’t even begin to describe them. many tears were shed.

anywhooo, enjoy the rest of the weekend 🙂

p.s., i’m thinking of changing up my blog (again, sigh, i know) but this time it includes changing hosts to wordpress. are there any wordpress users out there who recommend it? i have a really irrational attachment to google friend connect but i found out you can still follow wordpress blogs on gfc so you can still keep up with me, but i’m just not sure if i should… any help?
