this past week brought mercedes benz fashion week africa to melrose arch, johannesburg, and even though i couldn’t actually attend any of the shows due to it being my matric finals (5 down, 8 to go – yeeee!), when Sunglass Hut announced that they were bringing world renowned fashion blogger Aimee Song (and her sister, Dani) to south africa for the shows, i knew that i had to make a plan to attend.
the fossil origins: happy 30th anniversary!
it’s weird to think about how the incredible american brand, Fossil (hence the puntastic title), has only been around for 30 years. you’d think with their classic and authentic aesthetic, they’d been around for longer than that, so in commemoration of their big milestone, i thought we should take a look at their history…
outfit | the power of red
photos by tegan smith |
before i got overwhelmed by the madness that is fashion week, i had the opportunity to shoot with the amazing photographer Tegan Smith while she was in joburg this past week. you may know her as the incredible photo taker behind Baked The Blog, and if you do, you’ll know that she’s good at what she does. i got to experience the magic first hand and i honestly can’t wait to do it again! i had such a great time shooting with her – and the pictures prove the magic.
fashion | dearsolo goes to SAFW
knowing me, you’d think that if i had the opportunity to go to all four (in this case, five) days of SA Fashion Week at crowne plaza in rosebank, i’d be constantly blogging about it. and you know what? you’re right. but this AW 2015 season was a little different – maybe it was the bracelet on my wrist or the tag around my neck… yup! you read that right – this girl right here got her ish together and went as media! but wait, there’s more. i was chosen as Style Africa‘s SAFW correspondent! so instead of blogging all about it here, i blogged all about it there.
art | lucid; psychosis
it’s about that time to get carried away again.
i thought about a lot of things when deciding to take these photos – i thought about the ankara fabric in my mother’s closet and the song jungle by jamie n commons x ambassadors; i thought about tony gum and her ever-afrocentric flair; i thought about baby doll simone battle (rest peacefully); i thought about grimes and rihanna’s mash up of go and pour it up, while dancing in my bedroom by myself – but in the end, i kept thinking about phfat and their song with jungfreud, lights out, hence the title, lucid | psychosis.
