after my enlightening experience at #mbfwj, i realised that i needed to add in a subsection under blogger spotlight – the fashion people of south africa are actually the most interesting bunch out there, so let’s take a look at a few, starting with jerri mokgofe.
One of the first blogs I ever followed and I cant believe I haven’t done a spotlight on her!
Cape Town based fashion and lifestyle blogger Aisha Baker
runs one of my favourite blogs, Baked The Blog! I love the way she integrates her love of fashion, music, pop-culture and travel into one congruent blog; I definitely look up to her.
Aisha used to be a fellow Blogspot user, but now she’s a part of one of my new obsessions, South Africa’s first ever blog network called Tgether
, which also features some of my other favourite blogs like Aqeelah Harron’s Fashion Breed
which I did a spotlight on here
, Talya Goldberg’s Shades Of Gold
and Raya Rossi’s The Visual Journal
One thing I absolutely adore about Aisha is that she’s very honest – I see so many big bloggers who are afraid not to like anything! If Aisha doesn’t like something, she wont lie and say she does and I admire that honesty so much. I also love her social media! You can follow her on Twitter
and like her on Facebook
! They keep me up to date on pop culture and fashion, plus her humour (recently about exam procrastination – we all know how that feels)!
In a sense, I’m kind of connected to her – she was a part of the 2012-2013 Seventeen Magazine South Africa
Style Counsel and I was a part of the Style Counsel that preceded her! No, really – click here
to see my first ever photoshoot for the mag in June 2011 (excuse my face, the sun was in my eyes)! Aisha’s shoot was much better than mine!
I love her blog to bits – not only is there fashion and event coverage, but also a beauty section with tutorials! It’s a wonderful blog and I hope you like it as much as I do 🙂
I am completely and utterly besotted with Fashion Breed blog, by Aqeelah Harron. Just a little background info on the blog/ger: Aqeelah is a fashion & travel blogger/stylist/photographer from Cape Town who is currently based in Doha, and when I say she’s a travel blogger, I mean this girl goes all around the world (and I’m beyond envious).
The reason why I’m so very besotted is because Aqeelah:
- Gets to travel and photograph the world.
- Has amazing style.
- Has an eye for other people’s incredible style.
- Is always on/ahead of the trend!
- Reminds me of Troian Bellisario from Pretty Little Liars (I think I’m alone on that one…)
I’m a big fan of her What I’m Wearing
posts – her style is both trendy and also incorporates her culture.
A few months ago, Aqeelah was the flogger
(featured blogger) for another amazing blog, A Fashion Friend
. Check out her posts for that week – including the incredible creature coat – here
One of Aqeelah’s recent posts features her photo journal from her trip to Copenhagen – the photos are absolutely stunning. I highly recommend that you follow her – it’s a real quality blog.

Before I tried my hand at blogging (seriously) on Blogspot, I was a self-proclaimed Tumblr veteran since 2009. So, I thought it appropriate to do a little spotlight every now and then on blogs that I like, and I thought that I should start with the Tumblrs I like.
My first Blogger Spotlight goes to the wonderful, amazing and truly afrocentric Tumblr, Black Fashion by Javii.
If you haven’t heard of this blog, you probably should have by now. It features Africans and their style, from Nigeria to South Africa to America to England. They reblog the fashions they like and open their submissions to allow you to show your stuff.
A reason I decided to do the spotlight now is because they recently featured a former co-Seventeen Magazine Style Counsel member and one of my personal favourite bloggers, Tony Gum! Congratulations!
Take a peek, follow and enjoy!
