Despite the sweltering, uncomfortable heat – one of the biggest benefits of summer in South Africa is definitely the versatility of your wardrobe. During the summer months, there are some days when it still feels like winter and you can put on some boots, and other days when it’s so hot that espadrils are your only companion on the beach. Beyond that, you can wear open-toe heels without worrying about your toes falling off from the cold. So, in conjunction with Superbalist and the latest Sole Venture story on their blog with Aqeelah Harron and Anelisa Mangcu (which you can shop here), I thought I’d show you my top picks from each shoe category and give you a little insight into how I’d style them.

Heels

When it comes to high heels, I feel like this is one shoe category that you really should just have fun with. This is when you buy statement colours/patterns, frills, fringes, feathers, straps – just enjoy it, because they’re naturally a seasonal-trend item. That’s why I’m in love with these Madison heels – they’re trendy and fun but they’re not over the top ridiculous. I paired it with this simple jumpsuit because the shoes were enough of a statement – and this look can translate day to night. You can wear it to work with a blazer and then still look good to go out for drinks afterwards.

Ankle Boots

Yeezy taught us well. Perspex heels have been majorly trending this year, and Missguided’s peep-toe ones are perfect for your Dezemba mood. Hence why I paired them with this bodysuit – because if you’re gonna wear bad-bad shoes, you need a bad-bad bodysuit too. You can wear it with some jeans, a high waisted skirt or a pair of shorts and you’re good to go for groove.

Sandals

Espadrils are a lovely easy going sandal, and what I really like about these ones are the fact that they have a little bit of a platform on them, making them more trendy. Add to the fact that they have an ankle strap (which you can tie a bit higher if you want more definition on that trend), and they’re a great casual look. I paired it with a simple slouchy dress + t-shirt combination, and it’s a perfect simple look for day-to-day activities.

Slides

Slides are making a massive comeback for summer, and I feel like we have Gucci to thank for that! But in this much, much more toned down DailyFriday version, I paired these simple nude slides with another massive hit for the season – off shoulder dresses. Once again, this is a perfect look for a stroll on the promenade, lunch with friends, a sneaky beach trip and more.

Sneakers

I am a firm believer that everyone needs a pair of white sneakers in their closet, and now that Reebok is back in SA, I love their classic leather ones. I’ve become a massive sneaker fan because I love the sports luxe/athleisure trend, so I wear my sneakers with just about everything. I love the grey jersey dress that I paired it with, for those days that are a little bit colder – like in JHB when the heat has dissipated and a thunderstorm is on the way. The look together is casual and comfy, which is how I like it.

All in all, I hope you enjoyed my looks! All of these items can be bought directly from Superbalist – or better yet, click here to download the app and shop directly from your phone! You can see more of how I styled my own Superbalist heels below 🙂
