When I was talking to Kenny a while back, I asked her the question “So if clothes do not maketh the woman, what does?” And that actually got me thinking about the role of womanhood in fashion, or more so, of fashion in womanhood.

if you’re currently in johannesburg, you, like me, will be and have been experiencing rain, and lots of it since saturday morning, and even though this is my favourite kind of weather, trying to enjoy a friend’s birthday weekend in braamfontein when its pouring can really put a damper on things. so i thought it would be nice to reminisce about a sunnier time, literally a week earlier in the same place, so we can hope to remember what it feels like not to constantly be soaking wet.
Before I begin, lemme just say that yesterday has broken my heart completely. I pray for justice for Trayvon and peace for the Monteiths. What a day.
On Saturday, my sister Sope and I went to Braamfontein and the Neighbourgoods Market (but that is a separate post in itself). For the first time, I felt brave enough to try and do some street style photography – but bear in mind, I am not a street style photographer and this is my first time, so I’m getting there. Braamfontein is where you can find all the ‘hipsters’, so to speak, so while I didn’t manage to shoot all the interesting outfits I saw, I shot some pretty cool ones too.
