lupita est muy bonita

hello everyone! i just returned from camp with the grade 8s of my school and to say that i’m tired is the understatement of the year. voice gone, a bit sun burnt, muscular pain (how the heck did i cut myself & where did this bruise come from??) – suffice to say, i am happy to return to suburbia. i should’ve posted this before i left but my internet was being ugly so i couldn’t 🙁

if you haven’t heard of this woman, you’ve probably been living under a rock. not only has lupita nyong’o been the buzz of hollywood over her portrayal of patsey in the critically acclaimed golden globe winning and oscar nominated movie, 12 Years A Slave, she’s also caught our eye as a style icon who not only slays on the red carpet, but is one of the new faces of miu miu’s ss2014 campaign alongside elizabeth olsen and elle fanning. futhermore, this kenyan native is changing the game and she does so with such elegance.

other than to gush over lupita nyong’o, this post serves a purpose: to gush over lupita nyong’o in the february issue of Dazed & Confused‘s Girls Who Run The World issue. from bold make up to even bolder outfits, this pictorial has me feeling so many feels and i just love it and i love her.

Remastering The ’90s

Remastering The ’90s

If there is one thing you can admire about fashion, it’s the fact that fashion is cyclical. Everything that is on trend now, has been on trend before, but not necessarily in the same manner. It works in the same way as the theory of everything you’ve ever thought has been thought by someone else already, but you may just think about it from a new perspective.

With that thought in mind, looking at fashion today, with the rise of grunge overflowing in mainstream markets and the vibrant and bold prints, along with the haircuts (predominantly in black culture, although the rise of the Macklemore-esque comb-over is sweeping the globe more common especially in men’s fashion), it’s not so much of a stretch to think that the 2010s are just the 1990s reincarnated.

Those photos were part of the Remastering the 90s editorial for Pause Magazine shot by Christina Ebenezer. I thought that they perfectly represented what I was trying to say and these guys look pretty amazing too. Fashion, man…

Gaga For Gaga

Lady Gaga, Mother Monster, Stefani Germanotta – it doesn’t matter what you call her, as long as you don’t ignore her (if that is even possible). The 5’5″ singer has taken over not only the Twitterverse, but the pop music industry since her breaking onto the scene in 2008 with smash hits like Just Dance, Paparazzi and Love Game.

This September, Lady Gaga is on the cover of US Vogue – a very iconic month for magazines all over the world. I’m just loving her cover look in Alexander McQueen, photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. If you’re like me and in South Africa, you can get US Vogue in Exclusive Books and Estoril Books!

Reason enough for me to love Lady Gaga – she’s bringing the Born This Way Ball to South Africa at the end of November! The Johannesburg show is already sold out and I’m so happy to say that I’ve got my tickets to see Mother Monster live!! The Cape Town show is not sold out yet, but get your tickets soon if you’re around at that time – it is going to be an event. Her performances never cease to amaze. Click here for more information.

Lady Gaga can never be irrelevant because she loves to keep things fresh, so what better way than changing up her hairstyle to what she calls Louis Vuitton brunette! It’s not permanent, but I do like the change from the blonde and her other colours.

I need to get my hands on the September issue of US Vogue!

Selena Gomez For Elle US July 2012

Today I wanted to pay homage to a Disney girl who’s breaking away from her squeaky clean background and turning into a real movie star! With a new self titled perfume and a young Hollywood cast of her new movie, Spring Breakers, Selena Gomez is gradually showing the world that she’s a force to be reckoned with and not just a pretty face behind the Disney star machine and girlfriend to international superstar, Justin Bieber. This July, Selena graces the cover of the North American Elle magazine and her pictorial is showing off her maturity. Take a peek below!

Kristen Stewart For Vanity Fair July 2012

Kristen Stewart For Vanity Fair July 2012

As my first post on this new blog, I’d like to show you one of my favourite style butterflies of the moment. When she first arrived on the scene, Kristen Stewart was nothing shy of a complete tom-boy. But now, just a few years later, we see her come around to become a style goddess but still with a tom-boy twang. Her Vanity Fair photoshoot for July 2012 was absolutely stunning! I posted some pictures for you to see 🙂
